Best PS4 VR Charging Station: Review of the Top 5 Stands

If you’re looking for an organized way to charge and store your PlayStation VR equipment, then we’ve got some display options for you in today’s post. From Sony brand name displays, to 3rd party brands, we’ve searched the best selling units on Amazon and compared customer reviews so you can find the best PS4 VR Charging Station.

In this article, I will review 5 of the most popular VR storage units, list the Pros and Cons of each model, and give you my pick as well as the reason that I chose it.

First, let’s look at the All-in-One units that house your PS4 console as well as your PSVR:

PSVR Charging Display Stand (by Skywin)

4 out of 5 stars / 362 customer reviews on Amazon

Package Dimensions: 12.9 x 8.5 x 3.2 inches

Current Price: $39

This stand will store:

  • one(any model) PS4 console
  • one PS VR headset
  • 2 DualShock controllers
  • 2 PS move motion controllers
  • one set of headphones

PROS:

One unit organization

Charges 4 controllers at the same time & has a ‘charged’ LED indicator

Cooling fans are built in to improve the lifespan of the PS4 console

Built-in USB hub on the base with 4 USB chargers

CONS:

Slightly bigger model that takes up a good amount of tabletop space

USB cable is only 18 in long

AC Adapter NOT included – unit is powered by the PS4 console

Cannot have the PS VR plugged in at the same time as the 2nd DualShock controller

Most negative response on Amazon: There’s an apparent design flaw, in that you can’t have everything plugged in to charge at the same time.

RECOMMEND?

MAYBE. While it would, perhaps, be annoying to rotate devices being charged, no real issues have been reported in terms of function. If you like this model, and can look past the design flaw, then it appears to be a good All-in-One option. Also, there was no mention as to whether the charge would automatically turn off when finished, so to be safe, we’d unplug.

Kootek Charging Stand

4.1 out of 5 stars / 22 customer reviews on Amazon

Package Dimensions: 11.8 x 8.6 x 2.8 inches

Current Price: $29.99

This stand will store:

  • one (any model) PS4 console
  • one PS VR headset
  • one DualShock controller
  • 2 PS Move motion controllers

PROS:

One unit organization with space saving design

Stabilizing screw included to hold a PS4 or PS4 Slim console in place (not needed for Pro)

Charges the 3 controllers at the same time

Cooling fans are built in to improve the lifespan of the PS4 console

30 inch USB cable provided for long reach

CONS:

Can only hold/charge one DualShock controller at a time

No holder for an external set of headphones

Incapable of holding the VR headset in place if the PS4 console is not docked

Most negative response on Amazon: There are claims that the charging ports are touchy.

RECOMMEND?

YES. Certainly the model with the least amount of units sold on our review, but as the only complaint (so far) is that you need to make sure you have the controllers resting properly on the ports, we felt it worthy to include. As there is no mention of the charge function having an automatic turn off, we would unplug the unit after the devices are charged to protect from any possible controller damage.

Now, let’s look at some VR stands without the PS4 console storage:

PowerA Charge and Display Station

4 out of 5 stars / 233 customer reviews on Amazon

Package Dimensions: not listed! Reviews indicate appx 9inL x 9inW x 16inH

Current Price: $69.88

This stand will store:

  • one PlayStation VR Headset
  • one DualShock controller
  • 2 PS Move motion controllers

PROS:

Licensed by Sony (officially and specifically made to store the PS VR)

Charges the 3 controllers at the same time

Charge turns off automatically to allow controllers to stay stored when not in use

AC Adapter is included

CONS:

No space for console storage

No space for headphone storage

No USB ports on the stand

Most negative response on Amazon: Supposedly, the headset can slip off of the grip if it’s not in the perfect position.

RECOMMEND?

YES. But, yikes! This display station is considerably more in price.

Do you get what you pay for?

The greatest feature is that you can actually store your device and controllers on it without worry, as the charge function automatically shuts off when the devices are at full charge. This is a true charge and store display.

While it won’t store your console, your headphones, or any extra VR accessories, it does store the necessary VR items and takes up much less table space with it’s minimalist design.

Skywin PlayStation VR Charging Stand

3.9 out of 5 stars / 84 customer reviews on Amazon

Package Dimensions: 12.7 x 11.4 x 3.4 inches

Current Price: $44.99

This is a simpler version of the Skywin Display Stand that I first reviewed, and a cheaper version of the Sony PowerA Charge and Display Station.

This stand will store:

  • one PlayStation VR Headset
  • 2 DualShock controllers
  • 2 PS Move motion controllers

PROS:

Charges 4 controllers at the same time

CONS:

No space for console storage

No space for headphone storage

No USB ports on the stand

Most negative response on Amazon: Controllers don’t charge, or ports for controllers stop working shortly after purchase.

RECOMMEND?

NO. This simpler Skywin version (without space for the console) currently costs MORE than the version WITH console storage.

We’re not sure how this model has sold as many units as it has with the charging issues that have been reported, but we couldn’t recommend it due to the risk of it not properly functioning.

Collective Minds PS4 VR Showcase Stand Plus

4.4 out of 5 stars / 801 customer reviews on Amazon

Package Dimensions: 10.5 x 9 x 4.5 inches

Current Price: $44.99

This stand will store:

  • one PS VR Headset
  • 2 DualShock controllers
  • 2 PS Move motion controllers
  • one set of headphones
  • one Aim controller

PROS:

Easiest to assemble

Can store more than any other unit

Rapid charge for 4 controllers PLUS either the headphones or the aim at the same time, with a ‘charged’ LED indicator

Includes an AC adapter to charge your Aim controller

Has a USB charging port on the back

Can hang the VR headset cable from the headphones hook

CONS:

No space for console storage

USB port is on the back of the unit

LED lights don’t shut off once charged – reports claim controller damage

Most negative response on Amazon: Will “KILL YOUR CONTROLLERS” if left plugged in after LED light indicates they are charged in full.

This model has definitely sold the most units on Amazon, but is the best model?

RECOMMEND?

NO. While it has the maximum capacity for accessories, and provides ample space to simultaneously charge 5 accessories without them getting in the way of each other, we just couldn’t recommend it due to so many customers reporting damaged controllers after using this charging stand.

WHAT’S MY PICK?

The PowerA Charge and Display Station.

If you’re looking for a good, simply designed storage solution for your PlayStation VR, and want to be able to leave your devices stored safely on the unit after charging, then this display station may be the answer. It might be worth the extra cost to not risk frying your controllers, or have to unplug or remove them once charged as with most other models.

Sony designed this charging station specifically for their PS4 VR, and while it may seem a bit high priced in comparison to 3rd party brands, if you lost just one controller to a poorly designed stand, then you’d be out more money than if you just bought this model.

I prefer ease of use, and peace of mind.

Also, I’d rather not have my console in the display stand, as it adds bulk and takes up more tabletop space.

  1. Thanks for this information. I use one of the Kootek stands for my PS4 VR charging and I’ve noticed the charging ports are kind of touchy, and I can only charge a pad at a time. I have been looking to get another charging stand and I am glad I came across this post. I’ll check out your recommendation for the PowerA. It would be nice to have a charger that shuts off automatically. Thanks for the help.

    1. Hi, and thank you for your comment!

Glad that you found this post helpful, and thanks for sharing your experience here for other VR gamers!

  2. I am a frequent gamer and I could go on to say that I am something of a gaming addict lol. I currently use the PSVR Charging Display Stand (by Skywin) for my Play Station and it has been worth every penny I spent on it. I commend the writer for this research and I believe these are all wonderful options for gamers like myself.

  3. This is a great site and it is very informative. I really like how you have provided pros and cons for each charging stand. And I really like how you have provided a ‘Recommend’ section for each one. It makes it easier to understand which one would be suitable for those looking for charging stands. Thanks.

  4. Great product review. I was a video and pc gamer until my mother passed away. I vowed I’d never waste time on video games unless I’m spending it with family. My husband is sort of the same but for a different reason. We decided that if we were to play games, it would be in VR because I believe they do give good quality time with family in multiplayer mode. Hopefully, there will be more multiplayer VR games in the future. When the time comes, I’ll certainly get one of these VR charging stations.

    1. Hi, and thanks for commenting here!

We’re sorry for your loss, and you’re absolutely right! Games can be a time suck. With all of the advancements in gaming, they really can be addictive and it’s important to set limits. They also can be great family time!

VR is useful in that it offers so much more than games. You can discover new places, try new experiences such as rock climbing, and use a VR chat room to ‘see’ family that lives far away. SO many great applications!

  5. Some months ago, a friend of mine purchased a Collective Minds PS4 VR Showcase Stand Plus and his controller got damaged when he left it charging for 2 days. He tried confirming whether the warranty would cover the loss but sadly for him, it didn’t cover. Since then, we developed cool feet in getting a PS4 VR Charging Station that doesn’t come with the built-in feature that controls the power supply when fully charged.

I’ll definitely check out The PowerA Charge and Display Station, as it has the automatic shut off.

    1. Hi, and thank you for commenting here!

Sharing your experience will help others who are shopping for the same product. Sorry to hear that the warranty didn’t cover the loss. It seems with this particular model, that the developer expects users to remove the devices or unplug, which appears to be a common issue. Strange, as these are suppose to be DISPLAY stands as well as chargers. Thanks so much for sharing your story.

  6. Nice article there on best ps4 vr charging station. I must say you really take your time to select the best from the best of all the ps4 vr charging station and I have one of them presently.

when you are talking about ps4 vr charging station there seems not to be the one that will have some features that is missing in the others. So all of them can’t have the same features, one will be advance than the other. But the most important thing to note is to choose the one you seem it features has more important to you. Or the one that you think has the features you are looking for in ps4 be charging station

    1. Hi, and thank you for your comment!

You are absolutely right about the features. There are no two products that are EXACTLY alike, and you end up having to prioritize the features and select the model that best fits what you are looking for. Some people want the maximum storage design, and can live with having to unplug. Others prefer a more compact design with the ability to leave their devices plugged in and on display after charging. There’s always a give and take!

  7. My pick would be the Power A Charge and Display Station officially recommended by Sony. With choosing a storage solution for your PlayStation VR, the Power A Charge, though it might be more expensive, remains the best choice. These are my reasons: first, you are getting a great product officially licensed from Sony. Second, they include an AC adapter, and lastly, I won’t need to worry about turning the controller off manually when not in use. All these compensate for the price.

    1. Hi Tolu! Thank you for commenting here, and sharing your thoughts on which charging station you would choose. Your thoughts may help other gamers with their purchase as well!
